Fantastic Fall Concert
The Italian, Francesco Geminiani, a contemporary of Bach, was a brilliant violinist, and passionately expressive in his composing. German Johann Sebastian Bach was a master, and this playful, beautiful, and energetic piece is a favorite of musicians world round. Michael Morgan at the harpsichord is sure to give this a bit of Oakland styling as well! The Finnish Jean Sibelius wrote this wonderful first Symphony in 1899. He was a fan of the Russian composer Tchaikovsky, and like him, knew what to do with an orchestra! Sibelius love of nature gives this great work dramatic scope and wild passion, and his love of melody lends deep feeling and beauty. American James A. Becke, Jr. wote Music Mobilis to reflect the magic of Alexander Calders moving mobile sculptures.
