Called the "hottest new band in folk music" by legendary Philadelphia folk DJ Gene Shay, Spuyten Duyvil has grown from a core husband and wife duo to add Chicago-style harmonica, a drummer, and a wicked lap steel. They play unapologetically amped-up Americana mashing together blues, Southern Old Timey, gospel, bluegrass, jug band, Appalachian, and punk rock. Hailing from NYC they mine local history for tales of the peculiar individuals and accidents that make New York 'the island at the center of the world'. Their 'original traditionals' conjure embittered civil war veterans, recalcitrant small town bawds, suicidal bureaucrats, star-crossed lovers and brave-hearted fools navigating the mysteries of daily life.
