The Food Project invites you to a join us for a lively afternoon of songs about food with celebrated cabaret performer Belle Linda Halpern! The concert will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012, 4 p.m., at the Regattabar in the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. Following the concert, join Belle and Food Project youth, staff, and friends for supper at nearby Henrietta's Table, also in the Charles Hotel.

In celebration of her new CD titled CRAVINGS: Songs of Hunger & Satisfaction, Belle Halpern will be performing selections from her original heartwarming show of the same name  a funny, thought-provoking take on our constant cravings for food, love, acceptance, fame  and true nourishment. Belle will be accompanied by pianist Ron Roy.

Supper at Henrietta's Table will include your choice of one appetizer, one main dish, one dessert, and one glass of wine or another beverage.

Belle Linda Halpern's performance launches a series of celebrations commemorating The Food Project's 20th anniversary.

About Belle Linda Halpern:

Belle has been hailed as "Stunning, both as music and theater" in The Boston Globe and as "an extraordinary, sensual singer" in the Boston Phoenix. She has performed as a cabaret singer and actor at clubs and theaters including New York's Town Hall, and in Boston, San Francisco, Paris, Munich, Jerusalem, and Bombay. A graduate of Harvard/Radcliffe, she performs in French and Italian as well as Yiddish and Hebrew. Belle's other theater credits include work with Robert Wilson and Andrew Serban at the American Repertory Theater. She has taught singing and performance since 1991 at Harvard University and each summer in Italy through the Tuscany Project.

CRAVINGS: Songs of Hunger & Satisfaction includes songs that range from Tin Pan Alley classics to pop anthems, contemporary ballads and Yiddish showstoppers spiced with comic personal narrative reflecting Halpern's Jewish-American culinary journey. Belle Linda Halpern has performed CRAVINGS to sold-out runs, received a nomination for best solo show in Boston, and was named in the Boston Globe's round up of best Boston theater in 2009.

"Halpern shapes a unique dramatic performance with each musical change of mood...brassy and exuberant...hot and bluesy...and how she can put the torch to a song."   The Boston Herald

About The Food Project:

The Food Project, founded in 1991, has been a leader in employing sustainable agriculture as a platform to create social change. Every summer, the organization employs over 100 youth from Greater Boston and the North Shore of eastern Massachusetts to farm over 40 acres in urban and rural areas. They plant, harvest, and sell the produce, while also gaining valuable skills in leadership, communications, and diversity awareness. The Food Project also oversees farmers' markets, provides community education workshops, offers farm shares, contributes to hunger relief work, and manages a national campaign on college campuses to increase universities' purchases of fresh, local food. The Food Project maintains operations in Boston, Lincoln, Lynn, and Beverly, Mass.
