Mother Falcon "Alhambra" National Release Concert
Under New Leadership, Historic Scottish Rite Theater Relaunches
with Mother Falcon Celebrating the National Release of their Debut Alhambra

special guests:  Hello Wheels (8:45), Altered Five (8pm)

Austin's oldest surviving theater leaps back into public life on February 25 by presenting in concert Austin's fastest rising indie band that is also an 18 piece orchestra. To celebrate the February 21 national release of their debut album, Alhambra,  Mother Falcon's sweeping strings and majestic horns will fill the warm acoustic space of the historic Scottish Rite Theater with their intricate chamber folk symphonies.

Alhambra, originally released nearly a year ago to local acclaim and heavy airplay on KUT, is being launched nationally in true independent fashion.  With help from their publishers at Kobalt Music Group, Mother Falcon will self-release the album into the national spotlight with four videos, an exclusive online single, a digital marketing campaign spearheaded by 0260Media and college/noncomm radio promotion by Advanced Alternative Media.

An array of new video and music will debut over the next two months.  Current single "Alligator Teeth" is the first video.  Shot live at the original release celebration last February, the video showcases Mother Falcon's astonishingly tight live performance rather than syncing to the recorded track.  On February 6 of this year, the second single and video, "Just to See her Smile" drops.  James Franco's upcoming reality series Undergrads will focus on the video's production in a profile of director David Bukstein.  "Fireflies," another track from Alhambra has been licensed as the new series' title music.  On March 7, a video for album track "Serpent Tongues" will debut worldwide.  Produced by Escape Plan Productions, this third video employs extensive CGI effects and exteriors shot at Enchanted Rock, with help from Texas A&M's visualization lab.  The final video from Alhambra, "Kathryn" will be released in April.  "Pennies," a brand new track is now exclusively available for download on Mother Falcon's Facebook page.

In addition to shooting videos and prepping the redesigned mini-LP gatefold packaging for the CD re-release, Mother Falcon has been busy on many fronts:  composing and recording the music for Jarrito's Sodas national online video campaign, remixing an extended and augmented version of the Alhambra instrumental track "Waltz" for the film Fritz Austria, working on a collaborative album with students at Anderson High School for the arts education label Attendance Records,  and composing, producing and recording the score for Star Nation, a documentary on the burgeoning culture of competitive Starcraft gaming.

Mother Falcon's last major performance was a sold out show outdoors at The Mohawk last August.  The idea to present the group in an atmosphere radically different from a big rock club came from Emily Marks, who assumed the executive and artistic directorship of The Scottish Rite Theater in December.  Ms. Marks founded and served as director of Girls Rock Austin since 2006.  She brings to the SRT a commitment to producing adventurously accessible family programming and the vision to invite a broad spectrum of Austin artists to join in this commitment. To that end, the new SRT will present as it's inaugural production a family matinee at 2pm the day of the Alhambra release concert, including a performance by Mother Falcon, video art and special guests performances to be announced.

Beyond reinvigorating the SRT's children's series, Ms. Marks is dedicated to putting Austin's oldest surviving theater back on Austin's cultural map.  Opened in 1869 as an opera house, the theater was renovated as a Scottish Rite Temple in 1910 and has been excellently maintained since.   Though it hosted a smattering of public shows in the early 00s, besides presenting intermittent plays for children this elegant balconied space with it's aproned proscenium stage, starlight ceiling and antique painted backdrops has lain mostly dormant for the past 30 years, serving as home to Austin's Scottish Rite Temple and very occasional private functions.  Under the new leadership, Austin can look forward to more high quality and diverse children's programming as well as curated music series, performing arts productions, interdisciplinary happenings and public events that reach for the leading edge of Austin's exploding cultural arts scene.
