Tin Can Caravan: Mines and Indian Mounds
Sun. Sept. 16 - Springfield, IL to St. Louis, MO. Travel itinerary along Rte. 66; priority admission to evening event.
Fred Eaglesmith Band, Audrey Auld, Roger Marin, Gordie Tentrees, Bill Poss, Tif Ginn and Robbie Fulks.
The TIN CAN CARAVAN is an eighteen-day road trip down Historic Route 66, led by the master road warrior himself, Fred Eaglesmith. And where Fred leads, we follow. Fred and his band in their bus... and a motley crew of vans, campers, bikes and cars following, over the twists, turns and history of America's most legendary highway. Come for the whole tour, a week-long stretch, or just a day or two. It's all up to you. At least one show daily -public or private- in every state traversed by Route 66.
Pick up a day ticket here - it gets you a complete itinerary of the day's journey, admission to the show that night, advice about where to camp and an entree to the late-night hang out at the campsite.
A late-morning departure gives you plenty of time to sleep in, visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, or for a less-esoteric activity, you can head to the Cozy Dog Drive-In birthplace of the corn dog. After hitting the road, we'll pass through Litchfield, home of the Ariston Cafe, serving Route 66 travelers since 1924. As their neon sign says, "Remember where good food is served!" We will be passing through an area where mining once was king, through Mt. Olive - and a visit to the grave of famed union leader Mother Jones ("Don't mourn; organize!"), we'll roll by Soulsby's service station and proceed on to Staunton and Henry's Rabbit Ranch, a totally oddball collection of actual bunnies and old VW's.and then it's on to Collinsville, home of the giant ketchup bottle as well as the ancient native settlement now known as the Cahioka Mounds, the remains of the largest prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico. Afterwards it is but a short drive to St. Louis with the Arch and scores of downtown restaurants. An evening concert awaits at Off Broadway.
Come be a part of it.
The Generic Fine Print: At the time of purchase you will receive a preliminary itinerary. At least 45 days prior to the date, you will receive a fully detailed itinerary. This ticket entitles the individual purchaser to join the Caravan for this date, between the towns listed on the itinerary, and admission to that evening's show (in most cases this will be a public concert, in others it will be a private event). Food is not provided unless specified.
Unless an itinerary specifies that admission to a specific en-route attraction is included in the price, you are responsible for that cost (that's so that you're not paying for attractions you may not want to go to).
Bill Poss (bill@theginnsisters.com) is doing the research to find out a sweet spot for Caravaners in their own vehicles to spend each night (it will be up to you to make reservations; that way, you can stay at a campground if you want, or at a motel of your choosing - it's all up to you). Bill anticipates a late evening campfire or similar informal get together most nights. Any fees charged by the campground or RV park are the responsibility of the buyer.
