Ear to the Earth 2007: The Poles
On Saturday, October 13, at 8:30pm, Electronic Music Foundation presents encounters with sound artists Bernie Krause and Andrea Juan, part of Ear to the Earth 2007.
Bernie Krause, naturalist and recording artist, has done extensive work in the Arctic region, notably through his Arctic Soundscape Project, the first major recording survey of the fragile soundscape of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He will discuss his Arctic experience in a sound-and-image presentation titled "What the Hell is a Polar Bear Doing in Central Park?" In 2005 and 2006, under the auspices of the Argentine Antarctic Program, Andrea Juan, mulimedia artist, travelled to Marambio, Esperanza, and Jubany in the Antarctic Peninsula where she created and presented several video installations collectively titled Antarctica Project. She will present some of those works during this encounter.
