Taking the underground by storm with their debut album in 2000 titled Mind Over Matter, producer DJ AmpLive and MC Zumbi make up the Oakland native group better known as Zion I. Known for their futuristic production techniques as well as their positive and socially conscious lyrics, the hip-hop duo boasts a total of seven studio albums including collaborations with Living Legends' member The Grouch.

The duo's musical roots stem back to their early childhood being fascinated during the early stages of their life. Songs like "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow and "Rock Box" by Run-D.M.C had Zumbi, formerly known as Zion, hooked on the budding culture of hip-hop. After gaining experience upon signing to major label Tommy Boy in the late 90's, Zumbi took his knowledge and wisdom to make himself a versatile MC in the industry.

DJ AmpLive is paving his way as a talented and diverse music producer in California establishing himself as the other half of Zion I. He has been able to produce for major artists such as Akon, Flipsyde, MGMT, Linkin Park, and Goapele. Experimenting in many genres, Amp has created art in the genres of rock, dance, electro, mash-ups, and drum n' bass.

According to an interview by journalist Katsuja Cisar, Zumbi met AmpLive living in the same dormitory at Morehouse College.

"I was already rapping and I got with a couple other cats on campus." said Zumbi. "He saw us practicing one time, and he said 'Aw, man, I make beats. I'm gonna bring my sampler next semester'."

Zumbi then explained how they were both open to each others' ideas growing together as one unit.

In December of 2010, College Music Journal, commonly known as CMJ, rated Zion I's 2010 release Atomic Clock at the number one spot on the list of their trade publication, CMJ New Music Report. Also, according to Alarm Press, an online publishing collective, "Ultimately, Atomic Clock must be considered Zion I's best album."

The duo will find their way to San Jose, California in early 2012 in support of San Jose State University's local fraternity Alpha Kappa Omega and their effort to raise funds for a non-profit summer camp one of its kind in northern and central California, for children and teens living with a congenital heart defect.

Zion I will be gracing the stage with many other artists to spread this mission including So Timeless, an R&B, Neo-Soul, and Funk live band collaborative, well known around the San Francisco Bay Area.

The fraternity's 10th annual Vision Showcase's mission is to showcase, highlight and feature the local talent within their community. The lineup consists of a variety of talented students and student groups with performances ranging from singing and dancing, to spoken word and step shows.
