Horacio Salinas in concert
Horacio Salinas is an internationally known Chilean musician and composer. He studied at the National Conservatory of Santiago, and at the age of 16 was the musical director of the group Inti-Illimani. Exiled to Italy for 16 years (197388) during the Pinochet dictatorship, Salinas incorporated some elements of European musical traditions into his work. Spanish, Portuguese, African and pre-Hispanic traditions have all influenced the music of Chile as well as that of Latin America more generally. Chilean music also has had a strong link between the politically charged Nueva Canción movement that emerged in Chile in the 1960s and popular movements in the region and the world.
