Celebration de Purhepecha!
Join us as we celebrate the culture and heritage of the Michoacan people with authentic Food Music and Dance and kick off the Purhepecha Festival in Cobden!
From Cheran Michoacan, Mexico the Purhepecha Orchestra "Mitsita" will be in concert interpreting some of their most recent hits with the director of the Orchestra Raul Ceja.
From Cheran Michoacan Mexico, The Dance Ballet "Uarhani Tzipikua" will perform dances from various regions of Mexico and Michoacan. This in celebration of the Purhepecha Festival celebrated in Southern Illinois every year. The town of Cherán in the mountains of Michoacan, Mexico is the home of many of the Purhepechas migrants who live in the Southern Illinois and St. Louis regions. This year the presence of both groups of musicians and dancers is a result of a partnership between the people of Cherán and local volunteers from the area that have assisted on celebrating the Purhepecha culture. Doors open at 6pm with Authentic Mexican food including Pasole, Tamales and more served.The show begins at 7pm
