TownMusic: Seattle Chamber Players 'The Asian Muse'
The Seattle Chamber Players, Seattle's premier contemporary chamber music ensemble, is joined by internationally-renowned Japanese pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama and a group of local musicians including cellist Joshua Roman in "The Asian Muse." Featured will be music by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen; a chamber version of Gustav Mahler's Das Abschied from Das Lied von der Erde (with mezzo-soprano Kathryn Weld), arranged by Arnold Schoenberg and Rainer Riehn; Bagatellen by German composer Heiner Goebbels; and The Farewell, a work by the Silk Road Project's Zhou Long. The evening begins with a pre-concert recital Sommer Reisen by Mukaiyama, a combination of Schubert's Impromptu, improvisation and sound samples of five Japanese cities. After the concert, join the performers, Chen Yi, Zhou Long and TownMusic's artistic director Joshua Roman for a conversation.
