Few voices manage to be as threatening and comforting as that of Juan Manuel Torreblanca, one of the most prolific individuals in the latest blossoming of Mexican pop. After many years working as a one-man act, this artist astounded the indie-alternative scene last year with the formation of his band Torreblanca. The five-piece band put out their debut EP Defensa last year, which featured collaborations with Natalia Lafourcade and Hello Seahorse's vocalist LoBlondo. The phenomenal record earned them 'band revelation' status in a heartbeat, and now they're ready to take the next step, with the release of their first full-length album, Bella Época (Beautiful Epoch), produced by Quique Rangel from Cafe Tacuba. NPR's Alt.Latino is premiering their knockout single "Lobo" ("Wolf"). (NPR)
