About ALS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS is a 100% fatal motor-neuron disease that attacks the brain's ability to control the body's "voluntary muscle functions" which include movement, speech, chewing and swallowing and even breathing. It eventually leaves a fully functioning/feeling/emotional brain in a motionless and speechless body until death, which is typically 2 - 5 years. 30,000 people are newly diagnosed with ALS every year, while another 30,000 pass from ALS a year, leaving approximately 30,000 people are living with ALS at any given time. Adding insult to injury, 40% of those families directly affected by ALS are forced into poverty. Even more alarming is the increasing number of patients being diagnosed under the age of 30 and that those serving active military duty are twice as likely of being diagnosed.
About Rock Out ALS: An Independent Organization founded in 2009 in Seattle, Rock Out ALS is a Campaign to Unite the Music Industry behind awareness and produces several live music shows each year as a vehicle to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's Disease. It's goal at every show is to educate the general public on what the disease is, what it does and most importantly how they can help support research and patient care. Since it's inception, ROALS has had the honor and privilege to work with over 50 of Seattle's top Rock, Indy, Alternative, Punk and Rockabilly bands and is currently poised to go National, taking it's model to dozens of cities across the U.S.
