Melt-Banana
MELT-BANANA main members are YAKO who is a singer and AGATA who plays the guitar. YAKO (vocals, aka YASUKO) was the founding member of the band which would eventually come to rename itself MELT-BANANA after an initial formative period of member changes. After the band' s original guitar player left, AGATA (guitar) joined on. Later, about 6 months after the inception
of the band, both the drummer and the bass player both quit the band. YAKO and AGATA quickly recovered, and with a new drummer, they started over again, this time with YAKO singing and playing the bass. YAKO eventually grew tired of doing this double-duty, and started the search for a new bass player, so that she could concentrate on vocals. And they asked a bass player to help them. COFFIN PRICKS

There's a brand spankin' new group in town called Coffin Pricks, and it's made up of three great rock dudes: vocalist Chris Thomson (Circus Lupus, Monorchid, Red Eyed Legends), guitarist and bassist Ryan Weinstein (Cavity, Maximum Wage), and drummer Jeff Rice (Daylight Robbery). A couple weeks back the band hunkered down with local producer Mike Lust at his studio, Phantom Manor, to record some ripping punk jams. Though they have yet to sign with a label, the Pricks promise they'll have a sweet MySpace page up soon. Curious parties should head to Thomson's SoundCloud (bit.ly/cp-cr), where he's posted two of the tunes"Group Home Haircut" and "Brilliant Boris." Play 'em on repeat before the band's first show, Fri 8/19 at Quenchers.

Formerly local darkwave dance duo Gatekeeperthey decamped for Brooklyn last summerfinally have a full-length in the works, and it's set to come out early next year. They tell Gossip Wolf that things will kick into high gear once they wrap up their first national tour, which swings by the Empty Bottle on Fri 7/29. Shit's about to get real twerky, if the band's new gear is any indication: "We just got a TB-303!"

On Mon 8/1, dreamy twee-pop duo Tiny Firefliesaka Kristine Capua and Lisle Mitnik, better known as members of local indie-pop band Very Truly Yourswill release the Change EP on Spanish label Little Treasure. They'll mark the occasion with a trip to merry olde England to play an oh-so-twee fest called Indietracks on Fri 7/30. Local fans can take comfort in knowing the band will be back in town in time for a record-release show at the Bottle on Wed 8/10; it's free with an RSVP to rsvp@emptybottle.com.

This Wolf's personal portraitist, Keith Herzik, is selling his art at the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival this weekend, so go get your paws on an original drawing of your favorite Dumpster diver! Jessica Hopper and J.R. Nelson

HELLIPHANT

Helliphant was born in 2006. Comprised of members of such bands as Plastic, Uncle Eddie, Way off The Horse, Skintones, Ladybeard, echo-static, Carl, The God Damns, Bon Squad, Whore du Jour, Jumpin' Jack Hash, Mr Brownstone, 4 X Daily, Easy Data, Rayging Whoremoans and various other acts, Helliphant mashes together their sound with eerie precision and delivers it with the subtlety of a sledgehammer forged out of plutonium. The band's first disc "Another Glorious Exrecise in Horror" is a testament to the diverse stylings the band draws from..... Now a mere 2 + years later comes "Powdered Tusk". Written and recorded in 2008, this new chunk of rock goodness hits the streets 11/12/2009, with a release party at The Frequency. Much more focused, Powdered Tusk drops the goods with full force. Don't miss this event!.... Recently the band added Jonny Lord, a 2nd high frequency maniuplator, and are currently writing for a new record to be released before 2012 when shit hits the fan and John Cusack is the lone populating male on the planet.
