Music & Dance of Argentina & Uruguay - TANGO!
All ages show

Trio Garufa is considered one of the most versatile contemporary interpreters of Argentine Tango, mixing a deep respect for tango's Golden Era with the innovation of the modern Nuevo Tango movement. Their music is powerful, passionate, and always danceable.

They have performed across Argentina, Canada and the US (Including a recent performance in Chicago Symphony Hall). Trio Garufa performs Classic Argentine Tangos from the golden era (30's- 50's) as well as Argentine Folkloric Music (Chacarera, Zamba, Guarania, Gato, Chamamé) and modern Tangos from Piazzolla as well as Electro-Tango and their original compositions. Their music is exciting, virtuosic, and rooted in the dance. They are the only Tango ensemble in the US to have performed extensively in the Milongas (Tango Dance Clubs) of Buenos Aires.
Trio Garufa features:
Guillermo Garcia, guitar, (Argentina)
Adrian Jost, bandoneon (Switzerland)
Sascha Jacobsen, string bass, (California)
plus María Volonté: Vocals

Winner of the Gardel Prize, a Latin Grammy nominee and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, Maria Volonte is an Argentine singer, guitarist and composer celebrated for the intense passion and beauty of her songs as well as for her charisma and sensuality on stage. After conquering the world of tango with six award-winning CDs, Maria's new compositions explore the fusion of Argentine music with other Latin American rhythms, jazz and the blues. A tireless adventurer in music as in life, Maria lives year-round on the road, criss-crossing the globe to bring her music to new audiences.

Founded by renowned Uruguayan percussionistsEdgardo Cambon andWalter Gonzalez with the sole intent of having fun playing mostly the rare and very danceable uruguayan rhythms "CANDOMBE", and "MURGA", URUBANDA showcased their music at venues including Yoshis (Oakland & San Francisco), Yerba Buena Gardens, The San Jose Jazz Festival and many local Salsa clubs. The repertoire consists of traditional popular songs by Uruguaqyan composers such as Rubén Rada, Roberto Darvin, Jaime Roos, Los Olimareños, Alfredo Zitarrosa and more. Edgardo brings his 30 years plus experience leading the multiple recording Salsa band "Candela" into this mix creating with Walter a magnetic communion between the Afro-Caribbean and Afro Uruguayan sounds.
