Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra at Bloedel Reserve
SRJO is the Northwest's premier big band jazz ensemble. Founded in 1995, the 17-piece band features the most prominent jazz soloists and band leaders in the greater Seattle area, including in-demand young players and seasoned veterans. SRJO is co-directed by Clarence Acox, director of the national award-winning bands at Seattle's Garfield High School, and saxophonist/arranger Michael Brockman, long-time faculty member at the University of Washington's School of Music. The band's extensive repertoire is taken from the 100-year history of jazz, from turn of the 20th century ragtime to turn of the 21st century avant-garde, including works by Charles Mingus, Gil Evans, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Thad Jones, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Come hear the big sound of this big band!
