RFF - "Silent Choices w/Pariah"
Silent Choices - 60 minutes
'Silent Choices' is a film about abortion and its personal and political impact on the lives of African American women. It will examine the juxtaposition of racial and reproductive politics, taking a viewer on a journey from the early 20th century to the present day. 'Silent Choices' is a hybrid documentary film: part historical piece, part sociopolitical analysis and part first-person narrative. From African Americans' cautious involvement with Margaret Sanger during the early birth control to black nationalists and civil rights activists who staunchly opposed abortion and birth control (or stayed silent on the issue), 'Silent Choices' unmasks the complexities of this extremely emotional issue among African Americans. The film also follows the narratives of three black women who had abortions.
Pariah - 28 minutes
A lesbian teen unsuccessfully juggles multiple identities to please her friends and family. Torn by mounting pressure from home, school, and within, the line between her dual personas wears thin with explosive consequences.
