RFF - "Movement (R)evolution w/ Woodshed"
Movement (R)evolution - 64 minutes
In an astonishing exposition of choreographic creations, nine Africanchoreographers tell stories of an emergent art form of Contemporary African Dance. Stunning choreography and riveting critiques challenge stale stereotypes of 'traditional Africa' to unveil soul-shaking responses to the beauty and tragedy of 21st century Africa. Among the artists are Company Kongo Ba Téria (Burkina Faso), Faustin Linyekula and Studios Kabako (Democratic Republic of Congo), Company Rary (Madagascar), Sello Pesa (South Africa), Company TchéTché (Côte d'Ivoire), Company Raiz di Polon (Cape Verde), Company Jant Bi (Senegal) and Kota Yamazaki (Japan), Nora Chipaumire (Zimbabwe), Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and members of Urban Bush Women (USA). This feature-length documentary is produced and directed by Joan Frosch and co-directed and edited by Alla Kovgan.
Woodshed - 16 minutes
Woodshed. Her art. His music. Their love. What happens when two artists just can't communicate? They let the art do the talking. Woodshed, a semi-silent short film where the music is as much of a character as the actors, tells the story of August and Clef. When they break up, they use their music to communicate with each other, saying all the things they couldn't get out with words.
