Axelrod WEST Israel Film Festival
Axelrod West Israel Film Festival features these five films at the times and locations below.

MR. KAPLAN
Tuesday, July 14, 7pm at The Jewish Heritage Museum, Freehold

Having fled Poland for South America during the War, Jacob Kaplan (Héctor Noguera) is passing his sunset years with his wife and becomes fed up with his community's disinterest in their Jewish heritage. Mr. Kaplan fancies himself a Nazi hunter and targets a reclusive German restaurant owner (Rolf Becker), based on the flimsiest of evidence. An eccentric dramedy from Uruguay.

THE GREEN PRINCE
Wednesday, July 15, 2pm at The Jewish Heritage Museum, Freehold

Like a tense psychological thriller, this extraordinary documentary recounts the true story of the son of a Hamas leader who emerged as one of Israel's prized informants and the Shin Bet agent who risked his career to protect him. Exposing the complex world of terror and betrayal in today's Middle East, this Nadav Schirman film will challenge much of what you know about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

ABOVE AND BEYOND
Thursday, July 23, 7pm at the Monroe Senior Center, Monroe

A mesmerizing, often humorous film chronicles the gallant escapade of a group of Jewish American pilots who answer a call for help in 1948. In secret and at great personal risk, this ragtag band of brothers smuggled planes out of the U.S., trained behind the Iron Curtain, and flew for Israel in its War of Independence, helping to turn the tide of the war. A flight of personal discovery and renewed Jewish pride.

WOMAN IN GOLD
Thursday, July 30, 7pm at The Monroe Senior Center, Monroe

Woman In Gold is the remarkable true story of one elderly Jewish woman's journey to reclaim her family's possessions stolen by the Nazis, including a priceless painting of her favorite aunt by Gustav Klimt. Sixty years after she fled Vienna, Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), joined by a plucky young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds), embarks upon a major legal battle which takes them all the way to U.S. Supreme Court.

TOUCHDOWN ISRAEL
Tuesday, August 4, 7pm at The Monroe Senior Center, Monroe

In the epicenter of the Middle East conflict, an aggressive new sport, American Football--plays out at the stadium. Israel's 600 weekend warriors team up, suit up, don helmets over their kippahs, and charge the field, revealing pieces of themselves and their world along the way. Secular or religious, Israeli-born or not, these Jews, Muslims and Christians are transformed from ordinary citizens into fierce gridiron competitors on a quest for Israel Bowl glory.
