"... a steamy pulse of Latin rhythms." Music Box
Pianist Alex Conde's fascination with the compositions of Thelonious Monk is not an uncommon one. Over the years many creative jazz artists have interpreted and rearranged Monk's rhythmically charged melodies in a variety of ways, from swing to Afro-Caribbean. But Conde, in a unique twist, incorporates his flamenco roots for an imaginative reworking and exploration of the jazz legend's always inspiring music. Conde's quartet, consisting of Bay Area veterans John Santos on percussion; Jeff Chambers on bass; and Deszon Claiborne on drums, will be performing selections from his most recent recording, Descarga for Monk.
