"... immediate pleasure." The New York Times
Etienne Charles' Trinidadian roots are fully reflected in his post-bop musical vision. He is among the newest wave of young artists making their mark today, updating the jazz tradition for a new generation of listeners. With his buoyant trumpet out front, Charles leads a talented band of compatriots in combining jazz, Calypso, and Caribbean influences into a winning mix of infectious grooves. He is also an excellent hand percussionist and storyteller in the Afro-Caribbean folkloric tradition. Recently, Charles was selected for a 2015 John Simon Guggenheim Fellow in the Creative Arts. His latest recording, Creole Soul, has won critical raves.
