River of Life - Music of Crumb, Ives and Chen Yi Friday, January 11, 2008 7:30 Kaul Auditorium, Reed College 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd
Using more than 100 percussion instruments, along with amplified piano and soprano, The River of Life is the latest brilliant song cycle from American master George Crumb. The program also features Songs America Loves to Sing by Pulitzer winner John Harbison, an instrumental arrangement of American folk melodies, and two new string quartets by Chen Yi: Burning, a vivid reflection of 9/11, and Sprout, a lovely setting of 5th century Chinese folk melodies.
