Tom Rigney and Flambeau
Arena Theater presents an evening with Tom Rigney and Flambeau, a benefit event to celebrate Mardi Gras with music and food on Saturday, March 19. Doors will open at 6:30 PM for a buffet Cajun dinner and a no host bar.
The Tom Rigney and Flambeau concert will begin at 8:30 PM, doors for the concert open 7:30 PM.
Tom Rigney and Flambeau will return to the theater after last year's spectacular performance. Rigney, the "fiery, electrifying" violinist and composer, joins forces with some of the finest musicians on the San Francisco roots music scene to form Tom Rigney and Flambeau, a band that generates enough heat and energy to ignite a dance floor and lift an audience to its feet.
Flambeau features veterans of such great roots music bands as Charles Brown, Queen Ida, Roy Rogers, Clifton Chenier and specializes in blazing Cajun and zydeco two-steps, low-down blues and funky New Orleans grooves. Band member Danny Caron (electric guitar) toured the world with legendary bluesman Charles Brown prior to joining Flambeau. Caroline Dahl (piano) brings a strong element of Boogie Woogie and New Orleans-style piano playing to the band. Over the past 20 years she has earned a reputation as a brilliant soloist. Brent Ramp (drums) has performed, recorded, and toured with a wide range of roots, rock, and country artists, including Maria Muldaur, Billy C Farlow, and many others. Steve Parks (electric bass) is the other half of Flambeau's rhythm section. Originally from New Orleans, he has worked with numerous blues and R-and-B artists around the San Francisco scene for over twenty years.
Most of Flambeau's repertoire is composed by Rigney, but they also mix in a few classics from the Cajun/zydeco/New Orleans songbook.
The band was voted Best Cajun/Zydeco Band of 2004 by the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame, and since then they have been a successful part of the American Roots Music scene--from the Ft. Lauderdale Cajun Crawfish Festival to the Edmonton Blues Festival to the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee to the Alaska State Fair. Their latest release Serious Fun (2009) features original compositions by Tom Rigney as well as several cover tunes--the Sam Cooke/Lou Rawls classic, Bring It On Home To Me, and Al Rapone's zydeco masterpiece, C'est la Vie.
The Arena Theater bar and snack stand will be open.
Tickets are $20.00 for the concert and $35.00 including dinner, available online at www.arenatheater.org and at local ticket vendors. Vendors are Four-Eyed Frog Books and Sea Trader, Gualala; Arena Market and The Pier Chowder House and Tap Room, Point Arena; Tangents, Fort Bragg.
