Donald Rubinstein
"Rubinstein's unique perspective, equally informed by the wide-ranging implications of multimedia conceptual art and by the immediacy and sincerity of classic roots-driven songwriting, makes for a refreshing and insightful listening experience."
CD Universe
Donald Rubinstein Composer, singer/songwriter, and multi-media artist, made his musical debut at age 25, composing the score to George A. Romero's cult classic film Martin. It was named one of the "Top 100 Coolest Soundtracks of All Time" by Mojo magazine in 2002. Since then he has released 22 CDs, ranging from Americana-influenced rock, to jazz, to experimental; scored several feature films; main titles for two television series; and performed and recorded with numerous world renowned jazz and folk/country artists. "Fingers," his duet with Bill Frisell, was included on Jazziz Magazine's limited edition 20th anniversary CD, "Celebration of the Modern Era."
Rubinstein's multimedia and visual work have premiered in both New York City and Los Angeles and have been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art and The Whitney Museum of American Art in collaboration with Kiki Smith. A film entitled "Pilgrim "by Emmy Award-winning director Miguel Grunstein, based on Donald's work and life, is currently shooting and slated for completion in 2012.
"For sheer variety and entertainment, Donald Rubinstein's novel, unpredictable show is hard to match. Stunning, house-shaking, hauntingly beautiful."
