Karl Evangelista/Grex Quintet with special guest Ron Quesada
in the premiere of Suite: Taglish (talking Filipino/American)--an unheralded exploration of Filipino-American life at the turn of the 21st century, told through the medium of contemporary, multi-disciplinary music. Evangelista (guitar) is joined by a mix of up-and-comers and Bay Area veterans: Asian Improv Arts co-founder Francis Wong (winds), bassist/vocalist/cedar flutist John-Carlos Perea, drummer Jordan Glenn, and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Rei Scampavia.
Multi-instrumentalist Ron Quesada melds the melodic Kulintang gong music of the Southern Philippines with folk rock in a live, electronic explosion.
