Jonathan Kingham and Raining Jane
Jonathan Kingham has shared the stage with the likes of Vanessa Carlton, Shawn Colvin, Michael McDonald, Doug Stone, Jonatha Brooke, and recent tours have found him on the road with such diverse acts as Julio Iglesias Jr. and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. But its not only his live performances that are winning him fans and accolades. He took 1st place honors in the National Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest, The Unisong International Song Contest, as well placing twice as top five of the John Lennon Song contest. He brought home the 1st Place award in the USA Songwriting Competition in the Folk Category as well as the Overall Grand Prize out of a worldwide field of 33,000 entries and was awarded First Place in the Gospel category of the ISC songwriting contest in April 2006. His singing has been featured in films, soap operas and even the WB networkâs hit show â Felicityâ. Kingham now splits his time between Seattle and Nashville and is currently writing and recording with some of the top writers and players in Nashville.
Raining Jane is an independent, eclectic rock-folk band based in Los Angeles. Mai Bloomfield, Becky Gebhardt, Chaska Potter and Mona Tavakoli joined forces in 1999 and soon developed a loyal fan base out of UCLA's music scene. After spending the next four years gigging in California, recording an album and finishing college, Raining Jane made its first venture outside the golden state. Now the foursome spends much of their time touring throughout the U.S. and opening for artists such as Vanessa Carlton, Guster, Reel Big Fish, Citizen Cope and Maktub. In 2005, Raining Jane self-released their second studio album "Diamond Lane," recorded at The Village Recorder in Santa Monica, with Grammy-award winner Mark Johnson (Paul Simon, Ben Harper, Jackson Browne) and Robin Moxey. Also in 2005, Raining Jane garnered a full endorsement from Fender.
While Raining Jane's music is rooted in rock and folk, songs are further shaped by funk, hip-hop and world music influences. Each member contributes to songwriting and song crafting. Starting with a foundation in acoustic and electric guitars, drums and bass, Raining Jane strives to expand their sound beyond what is expected. This means swapping instruments and incorporating the cello, cajon, sitar and rapping. All band members are well versed in more than one instrument, but what seals the deal on the trademark Raining Jane sound is their unique, chill-inducing three-part harmonies.
