Piano Four Hands Dinner & Concert
The popular piano four-hands concert returns to the Blue Sage Classical Music Series in a special seated dinner event. In addition to the virtuosic and entertaining performance by pianists Adam Cohen and Susan Ellinger, you will enjoy a "taste of Paonia" menu, featuring 3 courses, a stunning atmosphere with banquet style seating, local wines as well as a special encore program that won't be heard on Saturday night.
Seating is limited to 50 individuals. This concert is generously underwritten by Kate Zachman.
About the Meal
Your 3-course meal at this event will be provided by Chef Dava Parr of Fresh & Wyld, Chef Kelly Steinmetz of the Flying Fork Cafe, and Ellen Hutto of Blissful Baking.
Gluten Free and Vegetarian options are available. Unfortunately because of the size of the event we are unable to accommodate vegan diets.
About the Performance
The Blue Sage Center for the Arts' Classical Music Series presents Emmy-nominated pianist and composer, Adam Cohen, alongside Blue Sage Artistic Director of Classical Programming, Susan Ellinger, in an encore performance of last season's popular piano four-hands concert. The program includes music by Ravel, Mozart, Stravinsky and Gershwin in a vibrant, humorous and unfathomably virtuosic evening of music arranged for piano and four-hands. Performances will be held at the Blue Sage's Curtis Hall, located at 226-228 Grand Ave., Paonia on Friday, May 1 at 6:00pm and Saturday, May 2 at 7:30pm. Friday night's performance includes a seated dinner and tickets are $75. Tickets for Saturday night range from $10-$20 and can be purchased through the Blue Sage Gallery by calling (970) 527-7243, in person at 226 Grand Ave., Paonia, or online at www.bluesage.org. All seating is reserved.
The duo will perform excerpts from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Gershwin's marvelous Rhapsody in Blue, always a perennial favorite. "Playing four-hands is a different type of challenge," says Ellinger, "in addition to mastering the mechanics of the notes, you also have to account for another player's arms and body in your space. There's no other experience like it for a pianist, it's quite a blast!" This is why Ellinger considers the piano four-hands setting "the most intimate form of chamber music."
Joining the local Susan Ellinger at the keyboard is Adam Cohen, a pianist and composer with degrees from Oberlin College and The Julliard School. As an Emmy-nominated composer, Adam has worked extensively on film, television, theatrical, commercial and interactive projects. He has composed and orchestrated film scores for Pixar, Disney, Fox, Nickelodeon, New Line and NBC. Adam has received two Emmy nominations, one for Outstanding Score for the Television Series "Psych" and one for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz". Adam currently lives in Los Angeles where he and his three boys love to build massive Lego projects.
