Spektral Quartet at Highland Park Community House
The Spektral Quartet is ready to invade the beautiful North Shore township of Highland Park with a program as diverse as it is enticing. Haydn's Quartet Op. 33 No. 2, "The Joke" opens the proceedings with a light-hearted romp before Anton Webern's "Six Bagatelles" throws the audience under a microscope with its miniature, pithy movements. Columbia University-based composer Sky Macklay holds a spot on the quartet's upcoming album with her "Many Many Cadences," which is very very funny and very very challenging. Finally, Antonin Dvořák's crowd-favorite String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, "American" rounds out the program with its unapologetic verve and wit.
