Ecstasies of Whitman and Rilke
San Francisco Bay Area Chamber Choir, with guest artist Susan Soehner, piano, and led by Anthony Pasqua, music director, presents "Ecstasies of Whitman & Rilke: Musical settings of the poetry of Walt Whitman and Rainer Maria Rilke, with comments on the poets and their poetry by Stanford University creative writing lecturer and poet Peter Kline.
Works on the program include:
"Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by Virgil Thomson "Perceptions" by William Schuman "Six Chansons" by Paul Hindemith "Sa Nuit d'Ete" and "Dirait-on" by Morten Lauridsen "Der Panther" and "Schwarze Katze" by Julian Wachner "The Last Invocation" by Bob Chilcott "One Thought Ever at the Fore" by Ernst Bacon "Darest thou now, O soul" by Ralph Vaughan Williams "Year That Trembled" by Roy Harris
Plus several solo pieces.
