Eric Thompson's Kleptograss

Eric Thompson's Kleptograss features an all-star lineup that only has the chance to play together once in a blue moon. Band members are currently busy touring with Joan Baez and Peter Rowan's Bluegrass Band.
This show is a CD release party for the band. It's taken a while, but they have managed to capture the magic of this musical alchemy on the new release, "Eric Thompson Kleptograss." It includes Eric's great cross-cultural "Jibaro Hoedown" plus tunes from Greece, Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Mississippi Delta, Kentucky, and elsewhere.
A pioneering folk/bluegrass guitarist, Eric Thompson circulated in the mid-'60s Palo Alto bluegrass scene, playing with Jerry Garcia in The Black Mountain Boys. In Kleptograss he joins with Grammy Award nominee Jody Stecher, champion fiddler Paul Shelasky, veteran bluegrass bassist Paul Knight and master guitarist Scott Nygaard for some deep musical exploration.
Kleptograss borrows freely from Appalachian mountain traditions, Puerto Rican jibaro, Western swing, Greek rembetikas, Irish reels, American blues, the music of Django Reinhardt and other disparate influences.
