Being in the World
This thought-provoking, spirit-filling documentary tackles the philosophical subject of what it means to be in the world, to find meaning in the world around us. Director Ruspoli (ELFF 2008, 2009) explores this subject beginning with a thumbnail history of philosophy from Plato to Heidegger to Hubert Dreyfus and then has renowned philosophers from Harvard to Berkeley explain further as we meet different masters of their craft– a Japanese carpenter, a flamenco musician and singer, Creole chef, a jazz musician, Salton Sea racers and a juggler. The unique mastery of art or craft is what proves that technology cannot replicate a human or what is being human. This beautiful film is a celebration of life, of thought and art.
