Spartacus
Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of this Academy Award-winning epic featuring an incredible cast: Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Peter Ustinov (the Oscar winner), Jean Simmons, Tony Curtis and Charles Laughton. Spartacus (Douglas) is a Roman slave who becomes a fierce, fighting gladiator. He leads a rebellion against the decadent and indolent Roman leadership. beginning with a few fellow gladiators grows into the hundreds Michigan State University is a part of this Hollywood classic. The crowd sounds for multiple scenes were recorded at Spartan Stadium before an MSU v. Notre Dame Football game including the famous "I am Spartacus" scene. The MSU Archives will display memorabilia of this event and a personal letter from Kirk Douglas written to the Lansing City Pulse will also be on display in the lobby.
