Mushroom Gardening Workshop
This is one of four backyard grower workshops being offered. Additional information is on the website for All 4 Workshops, all can be found on Brown Paper Ticket. Subjects are: Growing apples with a fruiting wall register for apple workshop Blueberry Gardening register for blueberry gardens Growing Grapes register for growing grapes Mushroom Gardening register for mushroom gardening Additional information is on the website for All 4 Workshops Mushroom Gardening This 2 hour course begins with a classroom session followed by outdoor hands-on workshop. Optional opportunity to make and take home your own Shitake Mushroom Log for nominal additional charge (pre-registration for logs required). This hands-on workshop will teach you the techniques necessary to grow edible mushrooms in your landscape, whether it be a vegetable garden, orchard or forest. We will discuss and demonstrate companion planting with mushrooms, shiitake log cultivation and explore how to make use of waste materials and neglected spaces through mushroom cultivation. This workshop will primarily focus on Stropharia (Wine Cap) and Shiitake mushrooms, but the techniques you will learn can be applied to a number of species.
Educator Bio: Dan Bensonoff is a devoted foodie, farmer, and educator. He began his mycelial adventures as a child when he would go foraging with his grandparents. The beauty of mushrooms eventually led him to try his hand at cultivation. Currently, he lives in Jamaica Plain and works as assistant grower at Newton Community Farm.
DIRECTIONS: All workshops begin inside the Administration Building at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. This is a small cape on the grounds in the southwest corner along Main St. (Route 3A) & South River street. Gate will be open in front of building.

From the West: Take 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the North: Take 93 south to Rt. 3 south exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Providence Area: Take 95 north to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From The Worcester Area: Take 90 east/Mass Pike to 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Taunton Area: Take 44 east to 3 north, exit 12 turn left at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4thset of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
