Grow Apples - Backyard Fruiting Wall Workshop

The Backyard "Fruiting Wall" Apple Orchard
Learn how 100 square feet of space can yield 5 bushels each of 5 different types of apples. (NOTE:price reduced $20 from last year's same event).
Jon Clements from UMASS Amherst Extension shows you how with this 4 hour workshop. Your fruiting wall will produce two bushels each of five apple varieties in just 3 years from planting using just over 100 square feet of backyard! We will spend some time indoors talking about site, variety, rootstock selection, planting, and annual care (including pest management) of your fruiting apple wall. Then, we will go outdoors and actually plant the orchard from start to finish including site preparation, fertilization, pruning, and tree support. Voila! Instant orchard. There will be a break for participants to get a hot lunch at the Farmers' Market (on-site) including GF and Vegan options, or bring your own lunch.

Speaker Biography - Jon Clements has 25 years of experience in commercial tree fruit production and tends his own research and demonstration orchards at the UMass Cold Spring Orchard in Belchertown. He is also Extension Tree Fruit specialist at UMass, Amherst.

Fairgrounds DIRECTIONS:
All workshops begin inside the Administration Building at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. This is a small cape on the grounds in the southwest corner along Main St. (Route 3A) & South River street. Gate will be open in front of building.

From the West:
Take 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the North:
Take 93 south to Rt. 3 south exit 12.
Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Providence Area:
Take 95 north to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From The Worcester Area:
Take 90 east/Mass Pike to 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Taunton Area:
Take 44 east to 3 north, exit 12 turn left at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4thset of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
