Messiah
Continuing in the tradition of our founder George Shangrow, Zon Eastes, former OS cellist, and conductor who now lives in Vermont, leads OSSCS in our annual traditional Messiah performance. Maestro Shangrow's concept of the work, while in keeping with the religious nature of the story, was that Handel was predominantly a composer for the theater and strove to present the story of the life of Christ with the highest musically dramatic sensibility. Maestro Eastes performed the work with us in 2007 and shares Maestro Shangrow's dramatic sense of the work. A great quartet of soloists and our spirited orchestra and chorus perform the piece in a way described as beautiful, exciting, sprightly, and moving; last year our Messiah was voted "Best in Seattle".
