MJFF presents Deli Man
Documentary Director: Eric Greenberg Anjou 2014 USA / English / 91 minutes
What makes pastrami, pastrami? Recipes brought by Jews from Poland, Russia, and Romania once made the local deli a vital part of family and immigrant community and ultimately flowed into modern culinary vernacular. The story of Ziggy Gruber, a third-generation delicatessen man, Yiddish speaking French trained chef, effusive proprietor of one of the U.S.'s top delis in Houston, Texas, centers this tour of the history of delicatessen and the passionate practitioners in North America who maintain and refine its traditions. Includes interviews with deli connoisseurs Jerry Stiller, Alan Dershowitz, Fyvush Finkel and Larry King.
