An evening with Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken
Thursday, November 18, 2010 / 7:30 p.m. / Doors at 6:30 p.m. /
The 930 is pleased to welcome back 930 favorites, Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken for a special intimate evening!
About Derek Webb: At a time when major labels are struggling to reinvent themselves, and artists are desperate to hold on to a rapidly shrinking audience that doesn't always pay for its music, singer/songwriter Derek Webb continues to make iconoclastic, irresistible, radio-ready pop records about love and war and social justice. However, unlike most pop artists on the scene today, Webb's engaged, committed fan-base is constantly expanding – in part because Derek Webb has a tendency to give his music away for free. "I've always loved folk music," Webb says, "because of its ability to tell the story of the times we're living live in, in a timeless way. But for me, the best folk music on the scene right now is hip-hop. So with STOCKHOLM SYNDROME I wanted to incorporate the more urban and evocative elements of hip-hop."
About Sandra McCracken: "Sandra McCracken's cloud-splitting voice will be my undoing. And it doesn't hurt that her writing marries the pop acumen off Lennon/McCartney to the lyrical heft of Julie Miller. If I wrote down all the superlatives I'm tempted to write down, you'd question my credibility." -Paste Magazine
