Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance or The Slave of Duty"
After completing his 21st year, Frederic is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. However, he soon meets Major-General Stanley's daughter, Mabel with whom an immediate romance ensues. However, after discovering that he was born on February 29th, Leap Year, he, technically, has only celebrated 5 birthdays but his apprenticeship indentures state that he remains apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday. So, Frederic must serve for another 63 years. Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.
