Event
Havana Curveball: A Film and Fundraiser
Sunday, March 8 12:30 - 1 pm: Ballpark Lunch 1 - 3 pm: Introduction by the filmmakers and Rabbi Larry Raphael, viewing and discussion
Marcia Jarmel and Ken Schneider directed a fascinating documentary about their son Mica, who seeks to square his tradition and idealism with the realities of contemporary life. Preparing for his bar mitzvah, Mica launched a grand plan to send baseballs to young players in Cuba, a country with a rich baseball tradition and one that provided refuge to his grandfather during the Holocaust. It takes two years for Mica to cut through the red tape and bring 200 pounds of baseball gear to Havana. Check out this exciting interview with the filmmaker in the SF Chronicle.
Tickets: $10, includes lunch. A raffle will be held with proceeds going to Religious School scholarships. Eric Drucker, 415.346.1720, x24 or edrucker@sherithisrael.org
