An Evening with Cindy Mangsen and Steve Gillette
Although Cindy Mangsen and Steve Gillette represent diverse musical styles, their collaboration radiates a compelling style all its own. No one who appreciates good music performed well will find anything missing...except that each performance should last about a week.
Cindy has long been a favorite of fans who favor traditional material. Steve is a country/folk singer/songwriter with Western roots. Cindy performs on guitar, dulcimer, concertina and banjo, but her singing brings her the greatest recognition. Steve, on the other hand, just writes great songs and plays guitar with to-die-for aplomb. "Using a pick and two fingers," writes The Los Angeles Examiner, "he plays fast and intricate patterns which recall Doc Watson."
Steve and Cindy continually show how valuable and moving tradition-steeped folk songs can be. Steve has been writing terse, elegant story-songs for several decades...songs recorded by the likes of Garth Brooks, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, and Linda Ronstadt, to name a few. Cindy travels with a voice that can warm a New England winter, every song becoming a musical poem as it leaves her lips.
Are you a fan? Are you a vertebrate, for crying out loud? All vertebrate fans admitted for spine-tingling entertainment in the Josephine Grey Parlor at Lake Street Church.
