CAUSE - Plastics are a persistent problem in waterways and ending up in the ocean where they have formed five floating continents – the biggest is larger than Texas. Plastics never go away; consumed by zooplankton then other ocean species, they wind up in our food chain. The effects of plastic in our food and water will have on our bodies is unknown. Washington DC and all of California have banned plastic bags, as have many countries including China.
GOAL - to raise $10,000 to support Tualatin Riverkeepers' efforts to ban plastic bags in Oregon during the 2011 legislative session.
SPONSORS - Hayden's Lakefront Grill – food sponsor, Max's Fanno Creek Brew Pub – beer sponsor, Parallel 45 Wine Bar – wine sponsor, Geoff Byrd – Grammy nominated performer, West Cost Bank – community sponsor, Xerox company – maker of low waste solid ink, and Peake Marketing – community sponsor.
ORGANIZATION - Tualatin Riverkeepers is a local environmental organization working to protect and restore habitat for clean drinking water and wildlife.
