THE COMPLETE 'METROPOLIS', A film by Fritz Lang, NR, 147min.
FILM DISCUSSION : Lead by Charlie Birnbaum after the screening of Metropolis on Monday August 23 at 3:00pm.
This is a new restoration of Fritz Lang's 1927 science fiction masterpiece Metropolis, now with 25 minutes of lost footage and the original Gottfried Huppertz score. Seldom has the rediscovery of a cache of lost footage ignited
such widespread curiosity as did the announcement, in July 2008, that an essentially complete copy of Fritz Lang's Metropolis had been found. Now for the first time in more than 80 years audiences will see what Lang intended before his film was butchered by distributors hoping to improve box office grosses by drastically shortening the movie.
