2015 Hands-On Workshops
All workshops start at 10:00am at the Allen Fire Station, 9061 Avon Allen Rd, Bow, WA with a lecture and discussion. We'll then drive to a nearby vineyard for practice and hands-on work guided by expert viticulturist Gary Moulton. Bring pruners, gloves, and a brown bag lunch. Drinks provided.
Spring Vineyard Management Sat. Mar. 14, 2015; 10:00am-2:00pm Topics covered include the basics of dormant season vineyard care, pruning, training, estimating bud numbers needed for a balanced vine, nutrient management, setting up an irrigation system, the when and how to of good pest management, and weed control. Bring hand pruners, gloves, and a brown bag lunch. Dress for the weather.
Summer Vineyard Management Sat. July 18, 2015; 10:00am-1:00pm Careful attention is crucial to getting a good harvest of high quality wine grapes. Learn the principles of canopy and crop load management; how to manipulate shoots to maximize quality; when to cluster thin; the use of micronutrient sprays to enhance yield and quality. Netting machine demo! Bring hand pruners, gloves, and a brown bag lunch. Dress for the weather.
Harvest and Fall Vineyard Management Sat. Sept 5, 2015; 10:00am-1:00pm Learn how to determine proper harvest timing, taking brix measurements, soil testing, variety selection, along with next year's list of chores. Bring hand pruners, gloves, and a brown bag lunch. Dress for the weather.
