FIRST FRIDAY Music Series @ Galeria West with the YAS-CORTES DUO
Since the inaugural concert in the summer of 2009 hundreds of music lovers have enjoyed the FIRST FRIDAY Music Series , presented by TEATRO Si at the intimate Galeria West Art Gallery in downtown Westfield, NJ. This once a month live concert event continues to bring to the area a unique opportunity to enjoy a diversity of music genres as performed by a select series of renowned artists.
The FIRST FRIDAY events continue on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 7pm with the YAS-CORTES DUO as they take the audience on a music tour with the mesmerizing sounds of the Andean and Folkloric genres of various South American regions. The YAS CORTES DUO is comprised of Maria Cortes and Oscar Yas. The husband and wife team were born in Argentina where they have won several prestigious music and vocal contests. The duo's extensive repertoire includes Latin American Music and the popular Tango as well as Boleros and the Flamenco. They play and perform their original arrangements that include a wide range of music selections. Founders and members of various vocal ensembles, they have performed in the great concert halls throughout North and South America and Europe. They have performed recently at Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC and Giants Stadium. YAS CORTES DUO has shared the stage with Ariel Ramirez, Jaime Torres, Horacio Guarani, Mercedes Sosa, Teresa Parodi, Ruben Juarez, Raul Lavie, Raul Barbosa, Roberto Goyeneche, Carlos Santana, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Chango Nieto, Susana Rinaldi, Julio Iglesias, Alfredo Zitarroza, Los Tucu Tucu, and others.
We hope you will join us often during the year to celebrate the arts in a unique setting. We recommend that you consider enjoying a fine meal before or after the concert at one of the fine eateries in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within a short walk from the gallery. Proceeds from each event benefit theatrical programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 New Jersey non-profit corporation.
