Olga- To My Friends & Unwinding
Olga To My Friends Russia, 2014, 58 minutes
Director: Paul-Anders Simma
Gorgeously shot in the cold and lonely Lapland region of Russia, Olga To My Friends tells the quiet story of Olga, alone on the Russian tundra guarding a store of canned provisions for the reindeer-herdsmen. Simma lets the quiet Olga tell her stories and shows the solitary, vulnerable life she leads in this forbidding place of unending snow, encroaching men and real possibility of losing the only home she's ever known.
Preceded by Unwinding: Fisherwoman of Scotland
Glenda Powell won the 2006 World Championship for Distance Casting. All the rivers that she has fished since childhood are etched into her memory. She recalls her late father and finding solace on the river after he died. Now she prefers to teach on the Blackwater River in Ireland rather than compete. Life on the water and the beautiful places she has fished have brought contentment.
