Steve Kaufman
Award-winning flatpick guitarist Steve Kaufman's music covers a broad range of styles including bluegrass favorites, popular swing standards, Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes, folk and country classics and novelty tunes. Steve has been pleasing crowds from California to Austria form more than 30 years, performing at concerts and festivals but also making a name for himself as a teacher.
A guitar player since the age of ten, Steve Kaufman was first turned on to flatpicking when his younger brought home a Flatt and Scruggs LP, which featured the young Doc Watson on guitar. At age 18 he entered the National Flatpicking Championships in Winfield, KS and made the top 10. In 1977, Steve took 2nd place to Mark O'Connor and in 1978, at 21 years old, he returned to win the championship. He went on to win two more times over the next few years, becoming the first and, at this writing, the only Three Time Winner of the National Flatpicking Championships.
He began producing books and videos in 1989 and now has more than 100 instructional books, videos and recordings available. His He travels internationally, conducting "Acoustic Kamps" in flatpick guitar as well as banjo and mandolin. On most weekends you will find him delivering one of his outstanding workshops and concerts. His workshops and camps have earned him multiple Gold Awards in the Acoustic Guitar Readers' poll.
In addition to this concert, Steve will be conducting his award-winning All-Level Two Day-8 Hour Hands On Flatpicking Guitar Workshop at Tall Toad Music in downtown Petaluma the weekend of October 22-24.
