Orchestra & Chamber Choir Concert
Come join the LPC Orchestra and Chamber Choir for their end of the semester concert, where you will hear masterpieces by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Holst, Albéniz and more!
PLUS - special quests Yukiko Egawa and Janet Jhoun on piano performing Fantasia in F Minor Op. 103 by Franz Schubert.
Serenade for Strings is as romantic as any of Tchaikovsky's other works and this performance will highlight the fourth movement. The Finale is subtitled Tema Ruso, and includes two Russian folk tunes. The first, a slow tune sung by Volga draymen. The second is an animated Russian dance, which Tchaikovsky scores at points with some quickly pulsing, balalaika-like pizzicato in octaves. Contrasted with this second theme is a third, lyrical motif that provides broadly sweeping movement against the vivacious dance.
From W. A. Mozart, the choir will sing the sweet Lui Care, Luci Belle ('Eyes of Beauty, Eyes flashing bright'); the intense Lacrimosa, part of the Dies Irae sequence in his Requiem Mass and Kyrie Eleison.
