2010 Island Creek Oyster Festival
What: The Island Creek Oyster Festival is an afternoon-long, sustainable event taking place on Duxbury Beach, home of the Island Creek Oyster and just a stone throw away from our harvesting grounds. Now in its fifth year, the Festival highlights the best in local oysters, food, music, and beer. As always, the proceeds of the entire event go to the Island Creek Oysters Foundation. Please consider your $50 or $150 entry fee a direct donation to the Foundation and its mission to help feed malnourished regions through hands-on education.
When: Saturday, September 11th, 2010 from 3 to 11 p.m.
Where: Duxbury Beach Park, Duxbury, Massachusetts, located 35 miles south of Boston off of Route 3.
What to do: The full-day, family friendly event has something for everyone:
Oysters: Our forty-foot raw bar will feature as many as 30,000 oysters (all donated by the growers of Island Creek) and volunteer shuckers from up and down the East Coast. Oysters can be purchased with food tickets, available for $5 each. 1 ticket = 6 oysters. Live Music: Under the Main Tent, you'll find two bands and a DJ:
3-5 pm - Cheech and the Reggae Bubblers
5-8 pm - DJ Ryan Brown
8-11 pm - Joe Bachman and the Crew
The best in local food: As many as 16 chefs will serve up small tastings inside the Main Tent from 5-8 pm. Chefs include East Coast Grill's Chris Schlesinger, Summer Shack's Jasper White, and Craigie on Main's Tony Maws. Please note: These tastings are all appetizer sized and are included with your entry fee. The best in local beer and wine: Harpoon Brewery will pour a selection of their locally brewed beers inside the beer tent while winemakers Pascal Jolivet and Au Bon Climat will have wines available by the glass. Drink tickets will be available for purchase throughout the Festival and cost $5. 1 ticket = 1 drink. Please note: The beer and wine tent will shut down at 10:30 p.m. Family Friendly Kids' Zone: The Interactive Kids' Zone is back! Open from 3-6 p.m., and set just inside the Main Entrance this family friendly zone is open to children of all ages (Kids under age 12 get free entry into the Festival). This year's family friendly Kids' Zone will feature an interactive Tide Pool by the New England Aquarium where kids can get up close and personal with oysters, starfish and other sea creatures. The Jones River Landing Foundation will also be on hand with a fishing boat full of live fish where participants can try to hook on a line in a fishing tournament just for the under 12 set! There will also be recycling tips for the festival so children can help their parents stay green, a beach scavenger hunt, sand art and other arts and crafts activities.
VIP Tent: Tickets are $150 Inside the VIP Tastemakers Tent, you'll get to know your oyster grower, wine maker, brewer and chef. This year's tent will feature interactive, one-on-one experiences that will introduce guests to the craftsmen behind our featured products, including a cocktail demonstration by Eastern Standard mixologist and this year's guest bartender, Jackson Cannon, a lesson on how to shuck oysters by the Island Creek Oyster growers, and a discussion on pairing wine with oysters by one of our favorite California winemakers, Jim Clendenen, of Au Bon Climat. Yankee Magazine Food Editor, Annie Copps, will emcee the afternoon's festivities, walking guests through the interactive demos from 3 to 5 p.m.; from 5-8, guests can enjoy small bites and unlimited oysters by chefs Jody Adams (Rialto), Ken Oringer (Toro and Coppa), Jeremy Sewall (Island Creek Oyster Bar), and Seth and Angela Raynor (The Pearl).
From 8 to 11 p.m., the tent turns into an after hours party for all of our award-winning chefs. Throughout the day, our star guest bartenders will be pouring beach inspired cocktails with Grey Goose vodka products from 3 to 8 p.m. (beer and wine will be available until 10:30 p.m.) Please Note: All cocktails must be purchased with a Drink Ticket; You will receive 3 drink tickets with your $150 entry fee.
Highlights of the tent include:
Interactive demos with bartender Jackson Cannon, Island Creek Oyster farmer Skip Bennett, and winemaker Jim Clendenen; hosted by Yankee Magazine Food Editor Annie Copps. Bloody Marys and mid-day Mimosas from 3 to 5 p.m. The Festival's only premium liquor bar brought to you by Grey Goose Vodka, open from 3 to 8 p.m. Harpoon Brewery Beer and Wine by Au Bon Climat and Pascal Jolivet, available from 3 to 10:30 p.m. Unlimited Oysters Small Bites by chefs Jody Adams, Jeremy Sewall, Ken Oringer, and Seth & Angela Raynor; available from 5 to 8 p.m. Who: The Island Creek Oyster Festival is put on to raise money for the Island Creek Oyster Foundation, which uses the money to support its mission to help feed malnourished regions through hands-on education.
More Info: Duxbury Beach is the home of Island Creek Oysters and who doesn't love taking care of their home (especially when guests are over)! We are doing everything we can to protect and support our environment, from donating oyster shells to composting all food scrapes, but it's a team effort and our guests will play an important role in keeping our home clean. We look forward to your help in making this a great night that leaves our home happy and healthy.
Tickets:
Tickets are $50 for general admission (children under age 12 are free) which includes admission into the event, live music, and small bites by our chefs.
V.I.P. tickets are $150 and include access to the V.I.P. tent where guests can enjoy unlimited oysters, plus access to our liquor bar (drink tickets required).
Drink/Oyster tickets can be purchased at the event for $5 (each ticket is good for 1 beer or wine or 6 Island Creek Oysters)
