After his highly anticipated performance at the Rhythm n' Blooms Festival was canceled due to travel restrictions brought on by the Icelandic volcano, Ben Sollee returns to Knoxville for a special Mother's Day performance on Sunday, May 9 at 7:00 pm!
Nashville's Robby Hecht will open the show with special guest Jill Andrews.
The concert will be held under the stars on the Garden's terrace. In case of rain, the event will move to the Garden's Stone Greenhouse.
Ben's unique performance experience and creative vision trump his 24 years and traditional classical training; he is poised to emerge as a solo artist, bridging genres and demographics with earnest and dynamic songwriting. Named on of NPR's "Top Ten Unknown Artists of the Year" in 2007, his distinctive cello technique and soulful voice have been marinating for years in his work with avant-garde bluesman Otis Taylor, The Sparrow Quartet, (featuring banjo-master Bela Fleck), and on the internationally known Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour.
An artist on the rise, Sollee gained attention last summer when he biked over 300 miles from Kentucky to the Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival with over 60 pounds of equipment in town as a benefit for Oxfam America. Sollee is a vocal supporter of sustainable living and has been an active participant in numerous anti-mountaintop removal benefits throughout the South.
Bring a blanket and a picnic, plus a bottle of wine or the beverage of your choice. No concessions will be sold.
A special VIP package is available for this performance, which gives ticket holders access to a pre-show reception with wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres, meet & greet and photo opportunity with Ben Sollee, and access to a premium seating area.
VIP table seats are priced per person and include all of the above, plus a table directly in front of the stage and wine during the concert.
