THE FIRST TIME I WAS TWENTY (REPLACES NINA'S HOME): SJFF 2007
MOHAI: TUESDAY, MARCH 20 6:30 PM
THE FIRST TIME I WAS TWENTY (LA PREMIERE FOIS QUE J'AI EU 20 ANS) Director: Lorraine Levy France 2004, 97 min, 35mm French w/ subtitles Northwest Premiere
It's the swinging sixties in the suburbs of Paris. Hannah, a "zaftig" 16 year-old played by the charming Marilou Berry ("Look at Me"), auditions for her school's all-male jazz band. Though the odds are against her, she uses her brains, talent, and perseverance to overcome sexism and anti-Semitism. Director Lorraine Levy's impressive debut feature celebrates misfits, underdogs and outsiders everywhere.
Co-sponsored by Temple B'nai Torah and Temple Beth Am.
