Young Creatives Arts Club by Musicollaborative
Musicollaborative Presents: YOUNG CREATIVES ARTS CLUB for Homeschoolers and Unschoolers Ages 6-12 Session III: "Tell me a story!" Eight Wednesdays, 10a-2p, Jan. 21-Mar. 18 (No meeting Feb. 18) with half session options available
Hosted by City Park Movement and Art Facilitated by Kaya Martínez, MME and Freelance Writer Kari Harden
Participants will enjoy opportunities to explore vocal and instrumental music, storytelling, poetry, songwriting, illustration, drama and more within a small mixed-age group. Each child's learning journey will culminate in a final project of their choosing--a bound book, a recording, a storyboard or a dramatic performance.
In addition to group activities, there will be time for self selection from among a variety of hands-on literacy and musical centers for independent practice. Weather permitting, we'll enjoy lunches and nature exploration at nearby City Park each week. Registration includes all supplies and materials but participants are asked to provide their own lunches and water bottles.
Sibling discounts and payment plans are available. Email musiclabnola@gmail.com or call 504-942-7606 with any questions.
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS: Kaya Martínez is a musician, artist, and educator dedicated to nurturing creativity and building community through the arts. After more than 14 years of service in the classroom, Ms. Martínez founded Musicollaborative Exploriential Music Learning for All Ages in 2013 to make high quality culturally relevant music education accessible to New Orleans' children and families beyond the confines of traditional schooling. Ms. Martínez enjoys holding space for learners of all ages to grow in their understanding in, of and about music and the other arts through a hands-heart-head facilitation style that incorporates exploration, imitation, improvisation and creation. In addition to her masters degree in music education and certification in Orff Schulwerk, Ms. Martínez draws upon a diverse background in both instrumental and vocal music, visual arts and dance to design engaging learning opportunities that dissolve boundaries, stimulate the imagination, and foster collaboration.
Kari Dequine Harden is an award-winning freelance writer who remembers hearing her calling as a writer in her elementary school years, and has a passion for words, self-expression, and story telling both fiction and nonfiction that she is enthusiastic to share with young people. After growing up in the mountains of Colorado and earning her bachelor's degree in magazine journalism and political science from the University of Oregon, she went on to call New Orleans her home since 2004. In addition to being a writer, Kari has more than 20 years of experience working with children, from babysitting and after school programs to summer camps and teaching preschool. She cherishes the opportunity in exploring the literary realm to engage and stimulate young minds as they find their unique creative voices.
